Noxious Weed Management
According the the Colorado Department of Agriculture, “Noxious weeds threaten valuable wildlife habitat and natural resources, cause economic hardships to agricultural producers, and are a nuisance for recreational activities. The Noxious Weed Act requires all Colorado residents to control noxious weeds using integrated methods to manage noxious weeds if the same is likely to be materially damaging to the land of neighboring landowners”.
Elbert County Extension works closely with the Elbert County Volunteer Noxious Weed Advisory Board to promote education and understanding on identification and management of noxious weeds of concern to Elbert County.
Their efforts have helped to create county specific educational materials/news articles, coordination and implementation of mapping efforts, and community awareness. Through their work, Elbert County has adopted an approved list of Noxious Weeds of concern, listed by category:
List A:
List B:
Curlycup Gumweed
List C:
Field Bindweed
